Between Weight and Lightness: The Acts of (Re)Intervention
Interview with the curators
At the 2025 Venice Biennale, the Brazilian Pavilion presents (Re)Intervention: a two-act exhibition exploring design’s past and future through material reuse, critical reflection, and the vision of a sustainable, ever-evolving design culture.
In the interview conducted by Carlo Nozza, the curators of the Brazilian Pavilion illustrate the distinctive features of their exhibition project titled (Re)Intervention, the key word underpinning the entire concept. The pavilion space, located in the Giardini of the Venice Biennale, unfolds in two main acts.
In the first, the solidity of the wooden panels that line the room evokes themes of recycling and material continuity, prompting reflection on the history of design and on how it can still serve as a foundation for constructing new design narratives — a renewed mapping between natural and human infrastructures.
The second act of the exhibition, in sharp contrast with the previous one, introduces a suspended, light, and dynamic dimension, oriented toward the future and its transformative potential.
Rather than a mere display of projects, the exhibition positions itself as a research platform within design culture: an invitation to promote a more sustainable, open, and continuously evolving approach — one capable of addressing today’s challenges by restarting from the past.
